Work your Muscles without Breaking a Sweat

A technique to treat injured and paralysed muscles, electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) uses strong pulses to force muscles to contract. These high-intensity contractions are helpful for improving blood flow, building density and improving muscle tone.

While EMS has proven useful in helping patients with spinal injury or other conditions where exercise isn’t possible, it is also becoming popular for those wanting to contour and tone their body. High intensity focused electromagnetic technology is used to target muscles in the abdomen, legs, arms and buttocks, without any surgery, downtime or pain.

Studies indicate that EMS treatments provide even more benefits when combined with cryotherapy, cold body sculpting and/or regular workouts. The beauty of an EMS treatment is that you can fit a 30-minute session into your lunch break and give your muscles a workout, without even breaking a sweat!

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the treatment work?

EMS induces strong contractions in the muscles, far beyond what is achieved through normal movement. This forces a deep remodelling of the inner structure, promoting the growth of muscle filaments and fibres, as well as new protein strands. In turn, this improves the shape, contour and tone of muscle tissue.

What does the treatment involve?

An optimised EMS applicator is secured to the area of the body undergoing treatment with an elasticised band, and is left in place for 30 minutes. You shouldn’t feel pain, although you may feel different levels of pressure throughout the three phases of the EMS process.

The treatment begins with a comfortable warm-up pulse, followed by a more intense frequency. Just like a regular workout, the session ends with a return to a more relaxing pace to loosen up your muscles again – all without you breaking a sweat!

Is it safe?

At our Darwin clinic, electrical muscle stimulation therapy is supervised by our qualified practitioners, with the frequency of the electrical pulses designed to be effective while maintaining your safety. In addition, the EMS applicator is made from a high-quality insulating material, providing a further layer
of protection.

How many treatments will I need?

A standard course of treatment involves 4 x 30-minute sessions of EMS. Ideally, this occurs over 2 sessions a week for 2 consecutive weeks. With each session only lasting half an hour, and no need for surgery or downtime, you can fit in a session during your lunch break, with no-one the wiser!
